News and Events

The Religions of India Initiative has provided diverse programming since 2008. The Initiative began in 2008 with an Annual Lecture on Religion in India, and as interest grew in our events, we have expanded our offerings. Over the past 8 years, we have organized an annual lecture, sponsored performances, and have hosted two Fulbright Scholars in Residence. In 2015, Carnatic vocalist, Sikkil Gurucharan was a Fulbright Scholar in Residence for sixteen weeks, spanning the Winter and part of the Spring quarter. In 2017, independent filmmaker Gargi Sen will be a Fulbright Scholar in Residence, and will curate a quarter long film festival at the Mondavi Center.

In 2016-2017, the Religions of India Initiative collaborated with the Mondavi Center to curate a year long festival, India in the Artist's Eye. The festival includes a photography exhibit, music concerts, and a lecture by celebrated novelist Amitav Ghosh. A listing of the India in the Artist's Eye can be found here: https://www.mondaviarts.org/india-artists-eye
